Teeth whitening is one of the easiest and most effective ways of lightening your teeth and enhancing your looks. Whether you want to add sparkle to your smile for a special occasion or simply want to smile with confidence, whitening is simple, affordable and safe. It is non-invasive and the effects can last indefinitely if topped up with some gel for one or two days every few months. Many people say they feel much younger after the treatment, having erased the effects of ageing, coffee and tea, red wine and cigarettes.
The process of the home whitening system that we use at Pemberton Dental begins with Impressions being taken of your teeth, thin gum shields or trays are then made to hold a whitening gel in contact with your teeth. These are comfortable to wear and should be used regularly with the gel over a period of weeks until the desired change in colour is achieved. Some people experience transient sensitivity, however using a sensitive formula toothpaste will ease this.
We are often asked if crowns, veneers or fillings will change colour using the whitening gel. Unfortunately, only natural living teeth can be lightened this way. However, do not be put off your desire to improve your smile, once your natural teeth have lightened you can easily have old fillings and crowns etc. replaced .
Teeth whitening is completely safe when provided by qualified dentists and has been used in dentistry for decades. Indeed recent changes to regulations (November 2012) mean that only dentists can provide this service and that gel strength is limited to 18% carbamide peroxide.
